DRAGON PAVILION

Sanshan Island, China 2014

Shown here is a small pavilion that was designed and built for the inaugural Dragon Burn festival held near Shanghai, China in June 2014. The pavilion was built using 832 unique pieces milled from 18mm plywood. The structure measured 4.5m in diameter and 4m in height. The local proportions and curvatures were designed to optimize inflammability as well as to act as its own ladder for assembly. The work included design, fabrication coordination, organization of transportation via truck and cargo boat, and organization of an assembly crew on site.
